Lorraine Lorenz: Where is your faith?

Where is your faith?

He said to His disciples: ‘Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?’  (Mark 4:40  – NIV)

Many times I ask the Lord to forgive me for failing Him in exactly this department of my life – worry and fear!  Am I alone or do you find yourself in this situation too?

I read about a group of passengers on an airplane: suddenly the plane entered an area of severe turbulence.   The passengers were terrified: some screamed whilst others were visibly shaken! The only one unperturbed was a little girl who contentedly continued playing with her toys and looking at her books. She showed no sign of fear.   Later when asked how it was she was not afraid during the terrible turbulence she replied: “Because my daddy is the pilot and he’s taking me home.”

What a lesson! That little girl had no fear because she firmly believed in her daddy’s ability to get her home safely.   We have our Heavenly Father who is the Pilot on our journey from earth to Heaven – He is Almighty and totally in control.   He loves us with an eternal love and has promised to guard and protect us – no ill can reach us unless He has sanctioned it for a reason.

Then why do we worry and why are we afraid? Yes, I know we are human but how it must disappoint Him when He sees our lack of trust. Often we fret about things; old disappointments and failures keep rearing their heads; we feel our lives have been ruined by some bad situation that may have occurred years ago; we are terrified that we might fail again.

During the storm of which today’s Scripture speaks Jesus said to His disciples: “Why are you afraid?”    He so wanted them to trust Him in the midst of the storm!

Let us decide today that we will persevere more against the sins of fear and worry.   When these things plague us let us immediately take the situation to Jesus and leave it with Him.   If fearful thoughts return, repeat the procedure, no matter how many times you have to do it. Lay the burden of fear and worry down at His feet – He will sustain you – He has promised.

Leave it there, leave it there
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there;
If you trust and do not doubt,
He will surely bring you out;
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

  1. Awesome post! Fear and worry is something I struggle with. Love the anaology with the little girl showing no fear because she trusted her daddy to take her home. This reminds me of one of my favorite passages in scripture, “And the Lord will deliver me through every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom, to Him be the glory for ever and ever! Amen. 2 Timothy 4:18
